Erasing Your Carbon Footprint

Posted by admin on September 21, 2009

The world is slowly waking up and “going green.” Many corporations are not only making efforts to recycle, they are making reduction of waste a point of pride. How can an event planner incorporate this philosophy when mapping out the next event?

Consider how your clients will travel to the event. Is it possible for them to take a train rather than fly? Can they drive to the event? Some clients may want to consider live streaming an event not only to increase attendance but also to reduce the amount of resources expended. Skype and web links are two options that allow people who don’t wish to travel to share in the event.

You can use local resources as a way of demonstrating social responsibility. The client may want to contribute to local civic projects as a way of reducing their event’s carbon footprint or use local companies that hire the handicapped.

Be creative. Highly motivate clients may be happy to paint a local school or raise money for a charity in order to reduce their carbon footprint. It is possible to encourage social responsibility and organize a successful event. With a little forethought and imagination, everyone involved comes out a winner.
