Social Networking for Event Planners – Part One
Social networking can be a useful tool for event planners both to promote their services and their upcoming events. According to a pre-conference survey by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), most event planners belong to one or more social networking sites. More than half the attendees belong to Facebook and LinkedIn and just over ten percent were on Twitter. Facebook is the fastest growing social network and Twitter is gaining in popularity.
Other social networking sites are growing in popularity as well. Let’s explore a few you may not have heard about:
- Presdo (www.presdo.com) is a beautifully simple tool for event planners. In a box that resembles a standard search engine field, you type in what you want to do. Press “Do” and you’re taken to a field with the questions who, what, where, and when. Enter the contact’s email address in who and fill in the rest of the boxes. When you’re satisfied, press “Invite” and an email is sent out to your contact.
- Eventbrite (www.evenbrite.com) is free for use unless you are selling tickets. The site offers tools that will help advertise your event and boost attendance.
Part 2 of this article will explore other social networking sites.
