Sometimes It’s the Little Things

To the outsider, a first glance at inclusive travel planning can seem like the planner has the worst of all worlds. It appears that flexibility has gone by the wayside when looking for inclusive travel. However, inclusive does not necessarily apply to the whole trip. Here are a couple of examples of how smaller inclusive tours can be used together to create a successful whole.

If your traveler loves art, you could find several different museum tour packages to put together. For instance, combine old-world art tours in large cities with visits to modern artist retreats and some of the small artist towns peppered throughout the country. For instance, if you were driving through North Carolina, would you ever think to stop at Asheville or Hendersonville? If you did, you might find interesting artists and artisans–don’t miss those small towns, or the great restaurants and B&Bs they offer.

The same goes for music. Every city has a symphony orchestra, but there are also lots of festivals. Colorado has one of the largest collections of summer music festivals in the country, with bluegrass, jazz, classical, and more offered in the beautiful mountain settings.

Is your traveler a train lover? There are lots of rail tours, like the one in southern New Mexico. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is steeped in history–both archeological and recent American–and a tour there includes a delicious homestyle lunch served at a station halfway through the tour.

How about ships? You can often catch tall ship tours that include examples–real, not new construction–from all over the world. Some are sponsored by historic foundations as well as individual gifts, and including a gift to the foundation in the travelers’ name would be a wonderful inclusion.

For other ideas, all you have to do is look around you. Your own area probably has dozens of such things, all of them gems in the ocean of everyday life.
