Using Surveys to Help You Plan

A recent survey of meeting planners published in a supplement to “Meetings and Conventions” (April 2009) showed that Europe would be the darling of offshore meetings for planners again this year. This is the third year in a row that Europe has won the gold medal.

So how can this help you as an inclusive travel planner? You can look to the countries that did not come in first for some great deals, super service, and inclusions. It doesn’t even have to be the countries that came in dead last. You should be able to negotiate some good inclusive travel deals even with the second place countries–Canada and Mexico.

No doubt you have already read blogs about Mexico’s troubles. The recent flu outbreak and crime waves that seem to roll over the country have caused disruptions in tourism. Well, the flu is gone and the crime wave is not as bad as some would have you think. Mexico may be an ideal destination for your meeting next year.

Central and South America came in fifth in the survey, but this region is home to Costa Rica, one of the darlings of eco-tourists. An inclusive zip line tour makes the perfect incentive gift for those who want eco-friendly travel. Africa and the Middle East include destinations like Dubai and Egypt, both destinations promising great travel and service.

Spend some time doing research into destinations for next year, and make sure you develop some professional relationships along the way. This way you will be prepared when the less popular countries start offering deals you can’t refuse.
