Watching Out for Websites

As an inclusive travel planner, you have probably noticed that there are new options going out daily. Many of these are advertised over the Internet, and some are new websites that show some very attractive options. However, remember that anyone can say anything on the Internet, and you, too, can get scammed.

If you are thinking of a newly advertised option for your travelers, there are some things you should do to make sure it is legitimate. First, contact the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any claims yet. Then call any phone numbers they list to make sure there is a business phone. If it’s in another country, always check with the State Department for general information on the country and area you’re planning to book.

Keep in mind that these steps still do not guarantee that the destination is safe, is as great as the website says, or is even real. If anyone can say anything on the Internet they can certainly say anything over the phone. Remember that if you have any doubts, it is always best to wait until there is more information.

One of the best things you can do is contact the destination area’s local travel or tourism bureau. If they don’t have any information on the destination, you would be wise to wait a while before booking a trip there. It’s like buying a new car. Many people wait for a new model to mature to make sure it’s going to work; don’t book a new destination until you know its worth.
